With more than 30 years of hands-on experience, we specialize in installing and maintaining reliable building systems that support multi-unit residential properties, commercial spaces, and small businesses.
Our services include emergency communication lines, hosted phone systems, tenant Wi-Fi, surveillance, access control, and vendor management, all tailored for properties without in-house IT support. We simplify operations, improve safety, and help clients reduce costs through smart audits and proactive service.
Founded by telecommunications expert and longtime emergency responder Rick Brooks, USAR Systems was built on precision, dependability, and community values. We’ve saved clients hundreds of thousands of dollars through telecom audits and service consolidations while helping them stay compliant with local and federal safety codes. We work directly with each client to deliver clear results, responsive support, and systems that just work. Our team is local, hands-on, and committed to keeping properties connected, compliant, and secure.
Rick Brooks, Founder & CEO
Rick is a telecommunications professional with over 40 years of experience in the field, who specializes in optimizing systems flow for businesses of all sizes. After more than three decades as a volunteer firefighter and a lifetime of volunteer work, Rick strongly believes in community service and prioritizing emergency preparedness in everything he does. Rick chose the business name USAR Systems as an homage to the disaster management techniques of urban search and rescue he has employed when responding to fires, car crashes, hurricanes, and the response to the September 11th attacks. When not at work, Rick enjoys playing clarinet with the Sound Beach Community Band and skiing with his family.
Andy Barrett, Operations Manager
With over 20 years of experience in the low voltage industry, Andy brings deep expertise across PBX systems, data networks, access control, and audio solutions. Known for a meticulous approach to both form and function, [he/she/they] specializes in designing and building clean, highly organized IT and A/V environments that not only look exceptional but deliver long-term reliability.
Andy is committed to ensuring that every system performs at its best, with a focus on stability, efficiency, and attention to detail that clients can depend on.
Outside of work, he has a lifelong passion for automobiles. Having competed in autocross and track events nationwide, he now enjoys sharing that enthusiasm with family—attending car events and traveling to experience automotive culture around the world.
